Following Kharge’s remarks, the supporters of late Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia burned an effigy of the Congress president.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lost his cool during a speech in Rajya Sabha and lambasted on BJP MP and former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar’s son Neeraj Shekhar for interrupting him.
Soon after Shekhar tried to interrupt Kharge during his speech, the Congress president reminded him that he was a contemporary of his father and had seen him as a child. Hitting out at Neeraj Shekhar for his behaviour, Kharge then asked him to sit down.
“Tera baap ka bhi main aisa sathi tha. Tu kya baat karta hai? Tujhko lekar ghuma. Chup, chup, chup baith (I was your father’s companion. What are you talking about? I took you around. Shut up and sit,” Kharge said while speaking in Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Following Kharge’s remarks an uproar from the treasury benches erupted in Rajya Sabha with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar calling Chandra Shekhar one of the tallest leaders of the country. In an effort to calm the situation in the House, Dhankhar urged Kharge to withdraw his remarks.
To this, Kharge responded and said that he had worked with Chandra Shekhar, and called him a comrade. “I don’t insult anyone, I have worked with Chandra Shekhar ji…” the Congress leader said.
Originally a Congress leader, Chandra Shekhar became the Prime Minister of the country in November 1990 from Janata Party with the support of Congress. However, his government fell soon.
Kharge’s Effigy Burned
Following Kharge’s remarks, the supporters of late Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia burned an effigy of the Congress president. The angry protesters also demanded Kharge’s dismissal from the Rajya Sabha.
The supporter’s of former PM Chandra Shekhar further accused Kharge of committing “an unpardonable crime” by using “indecent and unruly words about such a great personality.”
