Congress did not just lost the Delhi election badly, it failed to open account for the third time in the capital which was under its rule for 15 years before the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stormed to power in 2013. But Congress found a silver lining in this humiliating defeat that the AAP lost the polls and it increased its vote share.

Delhi Election 2025 Results

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications, said the verdict in Delhi is a “rejection of Arvind Kejriwal’s politics of deceit, deception, and vastly exaggerated claims of achievement”.

“The 2025 Delhi Vidhan Sabha election results reflect nothing more than a referendum on Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party. After all, at the height of the PM’s popularity in 2015 and 2020, AAP had won decisively in Delhi. This shows that, rather than being vindication of the policies of the PM, this vote is a rejection of Arvind Kejriwal’s politics of deceit, deception, and vastly exaggerated claims of achievement. The Indian National Congress took the lead in highlighting the various scams that have occurred under Arvind Kejriwal and voters have pronounced their judgement on his twelve years of misrule,” Ramesh wrote on X.

The Congress leader, however, admitted that the party was expecting to do better but it increased its vote share. Ramesh also expressed confidence that Congress will form the government in 2030.

“The campaign of the Congress was vigorous. It may not be in the Assembly but it is definitely a presence in Delhi, a presence that will be expanded electorally with the sustained efforts of lakhs of Congress workers,” Ramesh said.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi said people of Delhi have voted for change.

“It was very obvious from all the meetings that people wanted change. They voted for change. My congratulations to those who won. For the rest of us it just means that we have to work harder, stay on the ground and be responsive to the peoples’ issues,” she said.

Sandip Dikshit, Congress candidate from New Delhi seat, congratulated BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma for “splendid victory” after he defeated AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. Dikshit accepted responsibility for losing New Delhi seat and said people wanted change.

Congress leader and Kalkaji candidate Alka Lamba said Delhi will not forgive the culprits of Delhi. “I don’t who is at advantageous position and who is facing the loss; those who damaged Delhi – it’s their loss,” he said.
