West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will embark on a short trip to London on March 22. According to state government sources, she has a packed schedule starting with the Bengal Business Summit on March 22. On March 24, she will attend a program at the Indian High Commission. On March 25, she will attend a government-to-government business meeting, and on March 27, the West Bengal CM is scheduled to deliver a speech at Oxford University. The invitation to speak at Oxford came from Kellogg College, highlighting the interest in her 15-year tenure as Chief Minister and her numerous welfare schemes.
Banerjee confirmed, “I have received clearance from the Central Government for this trip. We have a short itinerary with the Indian Embassy program, business meetings, and the Oxford address. These visits are crucial for fostering business relationships. The Prime Minister himself encouraged such trips in a Niti Ayog meeting.”
However, she added, “I have received reports of a potential malicious campaign against me via WhatsApp and emails. My opponents can attempt to discredit me, but they should not malign Bengal.”
West Bengal government sources have expressed concern over a possible malicious campaign by the opposition during her visit to London.
In her absence, a task force has been established. State Ministers Firhad Hakim, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Arup Biswas, and Sujit Basu will oversee various matters. Administrative duties will be managed by IAS officers Vivek Kumar and Prabhat Mishra, along with DG Rajeev Kumar and CP Kolkata Manoj Verma.
