Faisal Patel, son of late veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Thursday revealed that he would ‘stop working’ for Congress. While announcing his decision, he expressed deep pain and disappointment.
In a heartfelt message shared on X, Faisal reflected on his challenging journey within the grand old party, saying that he had tried to follow in his father’s footsteps but felt consistently sidelined.
“With great pain & anguish, I have decided to stop working for INC India. It’s been a tough journey for many, many. My late father Ahmed Patel gave his entire life working for the country, party & the Gandhi family. I tried following his footsteps but was denied every step of the way. I will continue to work for mankind in any way possible. The congress party will remain my family as It has always been. I want to thank all the congress leaders, party workers and well wishers who have supported me,” he said on X.

Tensions brewed between Faisal and the grand old party when in 2024, Congress ceded the key Gujarat seat, Bharuch, identified with Patel family to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Hours after the seat-sharing announcement of Congress and AAP in Gujarat for the Lok Sabha elections, Mumtaz Patel, the daughter of Ahmed Patel, expressed disappointment over the AAP bagging the Bharuch seat.
Additionally, Faisal had also openly expressed his resentment against the grand-old party and added that he is keeping his options open as “he has been tired of waiting”.
Who Was Ahmed Patel?
Ahmed Patel was a senior leader from Gujarat and political secretary of Sonia Gandhi. Ahmed Patel was the MP from Bharuch for eight terms — thrice from the Lok Sabha. During the UPA government between 2004 and 2014, he was one of the top leaders of the party. He passed away in 2020.
During his political career, Ahmed Patel had not made any formal entry of his children into politics. He had a huge following in Gujarat across party lines and had significant influence at his home turf in Bharuch.
