In an exclusive conversation with Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi at the Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh CM said not just the people of Delhi but those in Mathura, Vrindavan, and Agra are also suffering due to a dirty Yamuna

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the Delhi Dangal on Saturday as he hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for cheating voters in the Capital. Drawing a parallel between the Sangam in Prayagraj and the Yamuna in Delhi, he slammed the Arvind Kejriwal-led party for turning the Yamuna into a “dirty drain”.
Adityanath, in an exclusive conversation with Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi at the Maha Kumbh, said: “You are in Prayagraj, right? So here, there is a confluence of Maa Ganga (river), Maa Yamuna (river) and Maa Saraswati (mythical river) in Prayagraj. See the difference between the Yamuna here and the Yamuna in Delhi. You can also take a sip of water in the Yamuna here; you can also bathe. Is this possible in Delhi?”
He added: “This is what I want to say. The Aam Aadmi Party has cheated the country, cheated the people of Delhi, cheated the people of the capital. You can see it there. Yamuna-ji has been turned into a dirty drain. Not only the people of Delhi are suffering its ill effects, but the people of Mathura, Vrindavan, Agra are also suffering.”
“Later, when Yamuna tributaries — Chambal, Ken, Betwa — and the holy water of other rivers meets Yamuna, then a divine river flows. There are treatment plants installed for it. The results of the water harvesting done by us at various places are visible. Ganga and Yamuna can be seen so clear and uninterrupted in Uttar Pradesh. Otherwise, the kind of situation these people (AAP) have created…This is not just about a river, they have betrayed Indian culture in the same way.”
The BJP has been unrelenting in its attack on AAP over the condition of the Yamuna, with Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday saying the people of Delhi were “waiting for Kejriwal’s world-famous dip in the Yamuna”.
“He [Kejriwal] promised he would purify River Yamuna in seven years and modify it just like London’s River Thames,” Shah said at a rally. “He even said he would take a dip in the Yamuna in front of Delhiites. Arvind Kejriwal, the people of Delhi are waiting for your world-famous dip in the Yamuna. If not in Yamuna, he can go to the Mahakumbh and take a dip over there to get rid of his sins,” Shah added.
Meanwhile, Parvesh Verma, BJP candidate from New Delhi constituency, put a cut-out of Kejriwal over the Yamuna.
