Former AAP leader and lawyer Prashant Bhushan held Arvind Kejriwal responsible for the AAP’s debacle in the Assembly polls and said that the party’s loss is the “beginning of its end”.
Bhushan, who was expelled from the party in 2015, alleged that Kejriwal transformed the AAP, which came into existence for “alternative politics”, into a “corrupt party”.
“Kejriwal is largely responsible for AAP’s Delhi debacle. A party formed for alternative politics which was supposed to be transparent, accountable & democratic was quickly transformed by Arvind into a supremo dominated, non transparent & corrupt party which didn’t pursue a Lokpal & removed its own Lokpal,” the former AAP leader said on X.
He also took a swipe at Kejriwal over ‘sheeshmahal’ and said that he departed from his original ideas and travelled in “luxury cars”.
“He binned 33 detailed Policy reports of expert committees set up by AAP, saying that the party will adopt expedient policies when the time comes. He felt that politics could be done by bluster & propaganda,” Bhushan said.
“This is the beginning of the end of AAP,” he added.
What Did Anna Hazare Say About Kejriwal’s Loss?
Social activist and Kejriwal’s “guru” Anna Hazare said that Kejriwal shed his common man image by building a “sheeshmahal” for himself.
He reminded Kejriwal of his previous promises of living in a “small room” for all his life.
He had earlier said that AAP, a political outfit which was born in 2012 out of his India Against Corruption movement, had lost its way as it prioritised money over public service.
The AAP suffered a crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls in which it was cut short from 62 seats in 2020 to 22 seats in 2025. The BJP made a stunning comeback, winning 48 seats.
Kejriwal himself faced defeat at the hands of BJP rival Parvesh Verma from New Delhi constituency.
