The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a thumping victory in the Delhi assembly elections of 2025, unseating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The BJP has made a comeback to the seat of power in the national capital after about three decades. However, the South East Delhi district threw up a slightly different picture, with AAP bagging four of the seven constituencies here and the BJP netting the remaining three.
Constituency | Winner | Party |
Okhla | Amanatullah Khan | AAP |
Badarpur | Ram Singh Netaji | AAP |
Tughlakabad | Sahi Ram | AAP |
Kalkaji | Atishi | AAP |
Jangpura | Tarvinder Singh Marwah | BJP |
Sangam Vihar | Chandan Kumar Choudhary | BJP |
Kasturba Nagar | Neeraj Basoya | BJP |
For AAP, Amanatullah Khan retained the Okhla seat, Ram Singh Netaji won in Badarpur, Sahi Ram emerged victorious in Tughlakabad, and incumbent chief minister Atishi held on to the Kalkaji seat in a tight fight against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.
The BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah defeated AAP’s former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in Jangpura. Also, Chandan Kumar Choudhary won the Sangam Vihar seat and Neeraj Basoya the Kasturba Nagar seat for the saffron party.
Elections for the 70 seats of the Delhi assembly were held on February 5. A voter turnout of over 60 per cent was recorded in the single-phase polls.
With the BJP emerging as the clear winner, all eyes are now on who the next chief minister of Delhi will be.
