The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday schooled Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with words like “Tumhe”, saying that the Leader of the Opposition must “exercise restraint” in his language.
The Congress leader used the controversial words while interacting with students in poll-bound Bihar’s Darbhanga after the local authorities allegedly attempted to stop him from reaching the venue.
“I would just like to say to him — you are the Leader of the Opposition and hold a Cabinet rank, so please exercise some restraint in your language,” said BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad.
While addressing a gathering of students, Rahul Gandhi said: “Hamne Narendra Modi se Kaha , Parliament me kaha tumhe Jati jangadna Karna Padega. Humne use Kaha ki tumhe Samvidhan ko yaha mathe main lagana padega (We told Narendra Modi — we told him in Parliament — you will have to conduct a caste census. We told him that you will have to uphold the Constitution on your forehead).”

BJP Mounts Attack
Further slamming the Congress leader, BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused Rahul Gandhi of “demeaning” the dignity of his constitutional post.
“By using disrespectful and undignified language for the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has demeaned the dignity of this constitutional position,” he said in an X post.
Pradhan also criticised the Congress party for prioritising only the dignity of its top leadership while disregarding respect for other constitutional positions.

The BJP leader alleged that Rahul Gandhi is at the forefront of using offensive language, often making derogatory remarks about the country while abroad and targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi with objectionable comments during election periods.
“Rahul Gandhi should immediately apologize to the people of the country for this language against Prime Minister Modi ji,” he added.
