TMC Feud: Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee on Tuesday veiledly lashed out at a female colleague and MP of his party, calling her “rude and uncivilised” over the public spat between the two senior MPs.
At a press conference in Kolkata on Tuesday, TMC’s Serampore MP and party’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha, targeted the party’s Bardhaman-Durgapur MP Kirti Azad and a woman MP, whom he did not name, after WhatsApp chats and a video of purported internal discussions were shared online by BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya earlier today.
Without naming anyone, Banerjee lashed out at an MP, saying she “has no other issue in her politics except Modi and Adani”.
“I will not accept that uncivilised woman! I will not tolerate that rude female MP who pressurises me to give her more time (to speak in Parliament). What is this?” he said, as quoted by media reports.
He further said that when he reached the poll panel’s office, “a female MP” charged at him.
“She was shouting at the top of her voice and I responded accordingly. In the meantime, she ran to the BSF and asked them to arrest me,” Banerjee alleged. Without naming any MP, Kalyan Banerjee said, “This lady has no other issue in her politics except Modi and Adani. She never challenges any other BJP leader. How dare she ask for my arrest? Who is she?”
Banerjee Threatens To Resign
Banerjee further threatened to resign from the party while addressing the press confernece.
“The day the party tells me I will step down. But I won’t tolerate such insolent behaviour of a woman parliamentarian. If Didi (Mamata Banerjee) says once I will resign. Just because she is a good looking woman and speaks fluent English doesn’t mean she can insult anyone,” Banerjee said.
Banerjee Slams Saugata Roy, Kirti Azad
Banerjee further slammed senior TMC leader Saugata Roy after he lamented the “shame” of having WhatsApp chats from the party’s MPs group leaked by the BJP.
Questioning his credibility and alleging that he has been a source of internal discord for years, Banerjee said, “Does Sougata Roy have a character? His very nature is to disturb one and all,” he added, claiming that Roy has disliked him since as far back as 2001.
He further invoked the 2014 ‘Narada sting op’, in which politicians, including Roy, were recorded allegedly taking bribes.

Further targeting another fellow MP Kirti Azad, Banerjee said, “One of our MPs who came from the BJP and has no popularity sent this video and WhatsApp chat to the BJP. They never fought against CPI(M). They are tarnishing our party’s image. He was running a signature campaign for a sweet shop to open its outlet in Parliament. I protested against that. It was not the agenda of our party. It was his agenda.”
Earlier today, Saugata Roy voiced disappointment over the public spat, telling CNN-News18 that he “felt very bad” about such internal conflict within the party.
Roy said, “I was at Vijay Chowk and was briefing the media. I heard that a woman MP questioned a senior male MP about why her signature wasn’t taken on a party memorandum. Later, we learned that the senior MP nearly assaulted her, prompting her to seek help from security personnel.”
Amit Malviya Shares WhatsApp Chats
Malviya shared the purported chats of TMC MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad fighting amongst themselves on the party’s official WhatsApp group for parliamentarians.
He had claimed that the heated WhatsApp exchange was an aftermath of an earlier public spat between two TMC MPs— including a woman leader— at the Election Commission headquarters, where they had gone to submit a party representation.
“It appears the party had instructed its MPs to gather at the Parliament office to sign the memorandum before proceeding to the EC. However, the MP carrying the memorandum skipped the Parliament meeting and went directly to the EC,” Malviya said in an X post.
He further claimed that the MP’s move angered the woman MP, who confronted him when they came face to face at the poll panel’s headquarters. “A heated exchange ensued, with both shouting at each other to the extent that one of them asked the police personnel present to step in,” the BJP leader said.
Spat Between TMC MPs
Sources told CNN-News18 that the altercation between TMC MPs took place before the party delegation visited the Election Commission headquarters. A day earlier, the TMC MP had signed a deputation letter on behalf of some MPs, which did not include the woman MP’s name.
The following day, when the TMC delegation arrived at the EC office, the woman MP confronted her colleague, leading to a heated exchange. During the argument, she asked security personnel to intervene and demanded his arrest, alleging misconduct towards a woman MP.
Subsequently, both leaders lodged complaints with party chief Mamata Banerjee.
