Even as the session of the Delhi assembly has been extended for two more days, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is not planning to table all 14 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports this time, News18 has learnt.

Sources say the government is likely to table only two-three reports, including the one presented on Tuesday. However, if time allows, they will bring a third one too. But that is unlikely, a senior leader from the BJP said.

On being asked if the BJP was planning to call more sessions of the Delhi assembly just to table the reports, the leader said, “Obviously.”

The leader, demanding anonymity, also said only two reports are planned for this session. They also said that these CAG reports will show the real governance of the AAP and how they fooled and looted the people of Delhi. “This one report is just the tip of the iceberg. A lot more will be revealed in the coming days,” the leader added.

A total of 14 CAG reports are pending. While the BJP is claiming that no reports were tabled in the house in the last 10 years, the official list of reports, seen by News18, says that the pendency started after 2022 and all reports were from that year onwards.

Seven of these reports are pending for around 500 days. Five reports were from 2022, and an equal number were pending from 2024. There were four reports pending from 2023.

The pending reports included two on the health department and another on performance audit on prevention and mitigation of vehicular air pollution in Delhi. One report is about the performance audit report on children in need of care and protection. One report on DTC is also pending.

The Delhi liquor policy CAG report, that was tabled on Tuesday, was delayed by around a year.

As per a document from the Delhi assembly, the CAG promotes accountability, transparency and good governance. “It is termed as the ‘constitutional watchdog’ and its function is termed by the Honourable Supreme Court as the basic structure of the constitution. CAG provides independent and credible assurance to the public, the legislature and the executive that the public funds are being collected and being used effectively and efficiently,” it reads.

Initially, the session was for three days and was scheduled to conclude on Thursday, with Wednesday being a holiday. However, now, the house has also been called on Friday and next Monday, 3 March.

Meanwhile, 21 out of 22 AAP MLAs have been suspended from the house for three days, including Tuesday, for disrupting the speech of the LG in the House.

The CAG report on liquor claimed that the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy has resulted in a revenue loss of about Rs 2,002 crore to the government. Reacting to it, former Delhi CM Atishi, who is now the leader of the opposition in the assembly, said it shows they did the right thing by scrapping the policy.

It is also important to note that it was owing to this policy that then Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia went to jail and eventually had to resign from the post.
